Meetings will be held every Wednesday and Thursday after school from 3 until 6. Because we have so many exciting plans for activities, it’s very important that you come to every meeting. If you need to miss one, please let Mrs. Jacobson know as soon as you can.

City and Country

As a group, we listed traits of cities and countries.

City

  • lots of cars
  • lots of people
  • lots of buildings
  • expressway
  • lots of libraries
  • lots of stores
  • lots of jobs
Country

  • horses
  • cows
  • sheep
  • farm animals
  • barns
  • trees and woods
  • deer
  • wheat
  • cornfields

We talked about these differences, then surveyed the group about where they would rather live. Nine students would rather live in the city, while four would like to live in the country.

Pre-Reading Survey

Before we begin to read Charlotte’s Web, spend a few minutes answering the following questions.

  1. What is a friend? What do you like about your best friend?
  2. What is your favorite kind of animal? Where does it usually live? Is it a pet, or a farm animal, a forest animal, or does it live in the zoo?
  3. What is your favorite kind of story to read? Do you like funny, serious, or scary stories?
  4. What do you think is different about the country and a city? Where would you rather live?
  5. Have you read the book Charlotte’s Web? Have you seen the cartoon?
